Accurate discrimination between obstructive and central hypopneas requires quantitative assessments of respiratory effort by esophageal pressure (OeP) measurements, which preclude widespread implementation in sleep medicine practice. Mandibular Movement (MM) signals are closely associated with diaphragmatic effort during sleep.
